Director’s Background

Senior Expo 005The founder and director of the program is Dr. Sandor Dorgo, Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology. Dr. Dorgo obtained a bachelor’s degree in coaching and a Master’s degree in Physical Education. He attended the University of Georgia where he obtained his PhD degree in Physical Education and Sport Sciences, with an emphasis on studying strength and conditioning. Dr. Dorgo joined the UTEP Kinesiology Department in 2003. Dr. Dorgo earned tenure and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2010.

Dr. Dorgo’s expertise is the scientific principles of fitness, strength training and conditioning. As a professor he taught undergraduate courses including Anatomical Kinesiology, Fitness Programs and Appraisals, Geriatric Fitness Programming, and Scientific Principles of Strength Training and Conditioning. Dr. Dorgo is also involved in graduate student education, has taught courses for Master’s and PhD level students, and served as the Kinesiology Department Graduate Coordinator. In addition, Dr. Dorgo organizes the field-work component for undergraduate students to get involved in the Physical Fitness in the Golden Age program, as well as an internship in strength and conditioning. Dr. Dorgo’s professional membership includes reputable scientific organizations such as the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
